NEW DELHI. — A young footballer lost his life in India’s north-east over the weekend after injuring his spinal cord while celebrating a goal he had scored, newspapers reported yester- day.
Peter Biaksangzuala attempted to perform the acrobatic celebration — similar to that carried out by Miroslav Klose — after he scored for Bethlehem Vengthlang FC against Chanmari West FC in the 62nd minute.

A source said: “He was trying to do Germany’s Klose signature flip stunt, but it misfired unfortunately.” The 23-year-old hit his head as he landed on the ground following the somersault, which resulted in the midfielder failing to get up off the pitch.

Biaksangzuala was taken to a local hospital where he tragically lost his life on Sunday morning after having damaged his spinal cord. Biaksangzuala fell backwards on his head as he took a series of somersaults after scoring the equaliser for his team in a local match in Khawzawl town close to India’s eastern border with Myanmar last Tuesday, the Times of India said. — AFP.
