The Harare Hub of the Global Shapers Community was launched by founding curator, Mr Nigel Chanakira, who is also founder and chief executive of the AfriAsia Kingdom Zimbabwe and a member of the World Economic Forum’s Community of young global leaders. The Global Shapers Community is an initiative of WEF.

Nine shapers, aged between 21 and 29 were nominated the pioneers of the group from both business and non-business sectors.

Among them are Godwin Vincent Gogwe, a 23-year old winner of the My Own Boss reality television contest and his runner Odert Kasimoni and Celebration Ministries International founder’s son Tommy Deuschle.

Commenting of this development, Mr Chanakira said: “I personally have been a phenomenal beneficiary of the World Economic Forum and young global leaders and I would like more young Zimbabweans to benefit from the same. I have partnered in the process with people who have more experience from the Global Leadership Summit. It is time to give our young people hope. I quote professor Schwab “We will mentor these young people and they will help us!”

Deputy head of the Global Shapers Community, Mr Yemi Babington-Ashaye concurred:
“The launch of the Harare Hub is another reminder that our future is bright. When young people make a commitment to a city, we know that they believe in the future of that community and with that belief comes the investments  and the care that make tomorrow even more beautiful and even more promising than today.”

Alvin Nyika, one of the members said “this is a life transforming event that any young man of my age would dream of. Making a change and impact in the world — this shows how young people when given the right tools can impact their peers.”

As part of the activities leading up to the launch, representatives of the Harare Hub met and received strong support from Deputy Prime Minister Professor Arthur Mutambara, who expressed his satisfaction and support for the group of dynamic young leaders coming together to have a positive impact on the city.

In the spirit of the Global Shapers Community and the World Economic Forum, the Harare Hub is non-political, neutral, not-for-profit and multi stakeholder.
The Hub is now among 195 other city based hubs in the world.
