SUNGURA musician Gift Amuli was last week taken to court by a Harare woman who was claiming US$250 for the upkeep of their two minor children. Clara Gutsa sued Amuli for maintenance after he failed to provide for the children. The couple appeared before magistrate Ms Rekina Dzikiti and Amuli did not waste the court’s time as he consented to the relief sought and agreed to contribute US$250 per month for both children. Ms Dzikiti ordered the musician to start paying the maintenance fees end of this month.

After the court proceedings Gutsa accosted journalists covering the case and threatened to sue them if they wrote her name in their newspapers.
“Don’t write my name or else you will hear from my lawyer, Gutsa fumed adding, Me and my kids are suffering and I don’t want to see my name all over the papers like you did to Sulumani Chimbetu.

“Amuli can afford to buy things for himself which cost thousands of dollars while he buys substandard clothes for the children which cost US$2.”
Gutsa, who was accompanied by an unidentified friend, remained holed up in the court premises afraid of cameramen waiting outside.

They were later whisked away in Amuli’s vehicle. Amuli, one of the founding members of Zvishavane Sounds, hit the big time with the album Munombozvigona Sei that carries the hit song Wamatuka which was followed by a video featuring the talented dance group Girls of Peace.
