CHICKEN Inn handed champions Dynamos their first loss of the season and, in the process, underlined their credentials after a memorable Castle Lager Premiership victory at Rufaro yesterday.

A first half header from Mitchell Katsvairo and a brace from their leading scorer Edmore Chirambadare condemned the Glamour Boys to defeat in this top-of-the-table clash.

Katsvairo headed the visitors ahead in the 44th minute before Chirambadare scored a gem of a goal, when he received a pass from Bekhi Ncube, just inside the Dynamos half, before curling his effort from close range.

With a two-goal cushion, Chicken Inn then threw most of their personnel into defence while Dynamos struggled to create decent open- ings.

Chirambadare then hammered the final nail in the champions’ coffin when he converted a penalty in time added on after referee Norman Matemera pointed to the spot when the forward was fouled by defender Elisha Muroyiwa following some sloppy play by Qadr Amin.

The scoreline, however, does not give a true reflection of the complexion of the game because Dynamos did everything in their power, but still failed to beat outstanding goalkeeper Elvis Chipe- zeze.

In fact, the first half was more of a contest between Dynamos and Chipezeze rather than a match between DeMbare and Chicken Inn.

Ronald Chitiyo, one of the few Dynamos players who lasted the whole match showing character, could have pushed his team into the lead in the 16th minute after he mesmerised the Chicken Inn defenders on the left but he could not fool Chipezeze.

The visitors’ goalkeeper was called into action again in the 19th minute when he went airborne to thwart an Oscar Machapa free-kick.

Then Chitiyo ran into space, received a pass from Ocean Mushure, and the diminutive midfielder opened his bag of tricks but, somehow, Moses Jackson blocked the ball for a corner kick in the 21st minute.

Such was DeMbare’s dominance that the first real chance for the Chicken Inn came in the 27th minute when Clement Matawu sliced the Dynamos defence open and looked for Chirambadare but Mukandi was alert to come off his line and avert the danger.

Then, in the 40th minute, Amin’s effort was again stopped by Chipezeze.

Chicken Inn took the lead against the run of play when Katsvairo headed home from a corner.

Despite their priceless win, Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas said they will not get carried away.

“All we are doing is working game by game and the next game is against Triangle.

“We are trying to focus on that now and stay among the leading pack because you never know what can happen at the end of the season.

“It’s still too early to dream of the title.

“We want to stay in the race and win the championship, you have to put pressure on teams at the top. We need to be humble.

“Chipezeze was excellent in the first half because Dynamos were coming at us,” said Antipas.

Dynamos coach David Mandigora struggled to understand how his team ended up being humiliated in a game they were the better side.

“We cannot say we played well and then lost three-nil. But I thought we tried our best and created chances but we failed to score,” said Mandigora.

“I can only say it was not our day. Their goalkeeper played well and we threw almost everything we had at him but he saved and I think he had a good game.

“As the game progressed, I think they gained confidence.”
