Prominent gospel diva Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave will headline a fund-raising concert organised by youths from the United Methodist Church under the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area (ZEAC) at Chisipite circuit in Harare this Saturday.

The show will see the “Makomborero” hit-maker leading a line-up of other musicians like Inner Praise, Leah Kasinamunda, Marimba aJehovha, Mapisarema Ekuvonga and Baba Dande among others for the worthy cause.

Youths from Chimanimani, Marondera, Chipinge, Mutasa-Nyanga, Murewa, Goromonzi and Harare are expected to also participate at the fund-raising with several UMC youth choirs billed to perform on the day.

The family-fun fund-raising concert, which will start at 10am and end around 4.30pm, will see Fungisai belting out tracks from her current album “Social Facts” which she released last year and features Jah Prayzah on the song “Gore Rapera”.

“Jesu Ndomuda”, “Wedding Bells”, “Zuva Rabuda” “Super Power” and “I Know My Destiny”, taken off the same album, are set to thrill the crowd while her yesteryear hits like “Makomborero” and “Zvirevo” among others are set to take people on a worship journey.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, the songstress said she was happy with the invitation and will use the opportunity to mingle with and entertain her fans.

“I am a UMC member and this is my church. It is such great honour to perform in front of my fans who happen to be my family in Christ also. I have completed my upcoming offering but waiting for the right time to launch it. I have the teaser for it called ‘Kuda Kwenyu’.

“For me this platform is not for marketing anything about myself but rather it’s an opportunity for me to identify and nurture talent within my church as I am in the process of developing my musical group called Zim African Sounds,” she said.

She said the show will also serve as one of her community development social responsibility projects.

“There is so much talent in our church and it takes artistes like me to assist,” she said.

ZEAC, UMYF projects chairperson Vincent Mumanyi said all was in place for the big day.

“We are happy that top gospel musician Mai Mashavave (Fungisai) will be leading the line-up of entertainers at the event and we are also positive that the other musicians — some of whom are products of our church — will prove their mettle on the big day.

“We are going to use music as a way of raising funds to advance the work of the Lord and on the other hand help in empowering youths through various income-generating projects,” he said.

Mumanyi said he was impressed by the response they got from people in support of the initiative.

“People have rallied behind this initiative and this is the reason why we have pegged the prices of our tickets at $3 for adults, $1 for kids and there will be the VIP section where people will pay $10.

“There will be a lot of fun on the day and we are urging people to come in their numbers,” said Mumanyi.

He said church projects help to empower and educate the youths.
