AFTER winning his maiden professional golf tournament, Ben Follet-Smith will hardly take a break as he will be taking part in the Côte d’Ivoire Open in Yamoussoukro, tomorrow. Follet-Smith emerged as the National Aids Council Pro-Am champion and is aiming to take his career a step further having spent the last four years playing college golf in the United States.

Speaking before his departure, the confident Follet-Smith said he is targeting several tournaments and is willing to take part in the Sunshine Tour pre-qualifying school next year.

“I have been working hard and the win is a massive boost for me, I will travel to Abidjan for their Open tournament and then see what will happens. I am also looking forward to taking part in several Asian tour campaigns so that I try and get their tour card as well. The win has given me confidence considering that this was my first attempt. I will continue working hard and from next year I hope I will be talking a different story,” said Follet-Smith.

The Cote d’Ivoire Open was a Europe-based Challenge Tour event founded in 1980 and has been held at President Golf Club, Yamoussoukro, in the West African country.

The NAC tournament had a purse of $35 000. The tournament was described as a great success by NAC finance director Albert Manenji who said they have managed to raise money for some sets of Mobile Cancer Screening Units for rural health centres across the country. The tournament was supported by POSB Bank, CBZ Bank, Agribank, FBC Bank, Newavakash International, PSMI, Southern Skies Medical, Medrite Healthcare, Old Mutual, Eureka Insurance Brokers, Medsure, Healthcare, Toyota Zimbabwe and Delta Beverages.
