Amai Mugabe officiating at the handover of tractors

The First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe yesterday distributed farming equipment, an assortment of foodstuffs and clothes to the people of Chimanimani during her rally at Mutambara Mission in Manicaland.

The farming equipment was handed over to horticulture farmers in Nyanyadzi, Chakohwa and Cashel Valley, all in Chimanimani District, while the foodstuffs and clothes were handed over to traditional leaders and the over 8 000 people in attendance at the rally.

The First Lady, who is also Zanu-PF Secretary for Women Affairs, said the farming equipment was part of efforts led by the Women’s League in the district to revive horticulture production especially the beans used to produce the famed Cashel Valley baked beans.

Amai Mugabe thanked the Zanu-PF Women’s League in Chimanimani and Cairns Holdings for engaging in talks to revive horticulture production.

The First Lady handed over two tractors, two planters and one fertiliser spreader and 120 knapsack sprayers each for Nyanyadzi and Chakohwa while Cashel Valley received six tractors, six planters, one fertiliser spreader and 120 knapsacks.

She also donated 25 000 litres of cooking oil, 3 000 bars of washing soap, 3 120 tablets of bathing soap, 240kg of washing powder, 200 boxes of brand new clothes, 4 358 pairs of shoes, 436 school bags, 280 blankets, 100 tonnes of compound D and AN fertilisers each among others. The First Lady also handed over 250 tonnes of maize.

Amai Mugabe also donated to traditional leaders in the area who were given suits, 200 litres of fuel each and 2 000 litres of diesel for the Zunde raMambo project and 15 blankets.

Zanu-PF Secretary for Transport and Welfare Cde Oppah Muchinguri also donated 1 000 litres of fuel to be used by the farmers, roofing material and 50 beehives while Cde Supa Mandiwanzira sourced 30 tonnes of cement, 30 tonnes roofing material and 15 computers for the community information centre to be constructed in the district.

Meanwhile, the First Lady also urged youths not to be involved in acts of violence and warned this would hamper the country’s efforts to attract investment.

She said other countries like Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and Iraq had been hoodwinked by the West, led by the US during the so-called Arab Spring for years resulting in the current instability in the four countries.

Amai Mugabe said the West wanted to cause instability in developing countries so as to loot their resources unhindered.
