The six-day course, which is being conducted by an International Handball Federation instructor Peter Kovac who is assisted by Alphios Magiya and Liberty Maidza, started on Sunday and will end tomorrow. Amon Madzvamuse, the tireless and hard working
ZHF president, is behind the hosting of this high level handball coaching course in Zimbabwe. Kovac said they are focusing on the basics of the game such as the technical and tactic aspects.
“I was assigned to come here to hold this course and it’s a First Degree one. I’m looking at the technical and tactic aspects of the game such as the attack and defence. I tried to come up with a full programme content.
“We are saying what are the most important parts in handball and also focusing on the basics such as movement.
“It’s a very important aspect in handball as well as the different positions and corporation, the different systems and task of each position.
“If we start with the basics we can build a strong foundation,” said Kovac.
The IHF instructor was impressed with the high turnout and response of the participating coaches as they have shown their willingness to learn.
“I am happy because the people here want to learn and are very positive.” ZHF vice president, Simbiso Mpepereki, said their aim is to develop the sport from grassroots level up to the seniors with qualified and professional coaches.
“As the ZHF we have developed a technical development plan where we are targeting the development of officials, specifically referees and coaches,” said Mpepereki.
