COSATU’S message to actors considering taking over the roles of the 16 fired “Generations” actors is: “Don’t cross the line! Don’t dare add insult to injury!”
Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi said any actor who doesn’t listen to the appeal will be followed everywhere, even to shebeens and their homes.
Speaking at Cosatu House in Joburg, he reminded the nation about the week-long boycott of “Generations” the union federation has called for.
Vavi said Cosatu and its two affiliates, the Creative Workers Union and the Communication Workers Union, were determined to win the war to have the fired actors reinstated.

“Our campaign is not just for these 16 actors but for all workers in the entertainment industry and other vulnerable workers,” Vavi said.
Fired actor Patrick Shai said every actor in the country had to realise that the journey they started was for everyone.

“We say to every actor who wants to replace us that you will be joining the same exploitation we are running away from. We need to be united.
“We urge other actors to join us. We know there are other actors out there who support us but cannot come out into the open because they fear victimisation,” Patrick said.

He apologised to the millions of “Generations” fans and promised that the actors were very close to returning to work.
“Rest assured there won’t be Generations II. “It will be the same Generations you know and it will be more exciting than ever,” he said.
