Contemporary traditional musician Edith WeUtonga is set to headline “Amawala” show, new vibrant music collaboration of women artistes at the Book Cafe tomorrow.
WeUtonga will share the stage with two other leading artistes from diverse musical backgrounds Rute Mbangwa and Afro-pop singer Tina Watyoka  backed by some of Zimbabwe’s gifted instrumentalists.

WeUtonga believes people will enjoy the show and continue to support women in the music industry.
“It’s the beauty of spontaneity  coming from three different backgrounds, appreciating each others’ work and style, and merging to create a package that people are going to enjoy.

“We rarely see female artistes from different bands on the same stage, working together, and yet this is what we all need if we are to move and grow even as a country,” she said.

Mbangwa said the initiative benefits a lot other artistes and as they share notes.
“The Amawala collaboration is also about linking communities and me being from Manicaland but singing Ndebele songs and getting to know what they mean is a new experience. It makes it a whole lot of fun,” she said.

The trio who had their first show in June are also going to perform next month at Intwasa Festival.
Recently Mbangwa was one of the winners for the composition of the theme song for the United Nations World Travel Organization.

The collaboration is supported by the gender project Female Literary Arts & Media Enterprise and  Pamberi Trust, one of Zimbabwe’s widest reaching arts development organisations.
