The Harare International Carnival is in full swing! Samba dancers are set to ignite the fire at this years’ festival apart from the long list of international and local musicians who are billed to perform.

According to the programme the 10-day fiesta is making Harare high with electrifying events which appeal to both the elite and middle class market. The other component of the carnival that could be going unnoticed is fashion. The carnival is also about outfits and fashion statements.

With that in mind, local designer Petreace Muzerengwa is set to showcase her designs at Carnival Street Parade this Saturday. Muzerengwa said she will have models in a truck displaying some of her designs.

“Fashion is just like music, a language which needs to be communicated very well. The aim of the showcase is to celebrate different cultures in Zimbabwe through fashion. My goal is to present the best at such opportunity,” she said. She said would like to define African style according to Zimbabwe.

“On my models, I will also have Chiedza Hukuimwe — Miss Deaf Zimbabwe 2017, since one of my goals is to work with disabled models as they too need us. My designs will be made of Binga baskets which rarely are talked about but portray our African culture. I am known for evening gowns, wedding gowns, and casual wear and red carpet events but at Carnival it is a different feel and uniqueness. The outfits to be on display will be made of Binga baskets,” she said.

She said fashion was her passion since childhood. “I love fashion, I was born to dress. This is the start of my journey and I thank God for the opportunity,” she said.

Muzerengwa recently took part at the Star FM fashion show dubbed ‘Stars Under the Stars’, which was held at the NatPrint Gardens, Harare and she dressed some of the radio personalities. She also dressed some of the models at the Miss Deaf Zimbabwe 2017. Meanwhile, apart for the fashion show to be hosted by Muzerengwa, locals are expected to come dressed in their carnival gears.
