A fashion show titled “Rocking the African Print” will spice up this year’s Castle Tankard horse race at Borrowdale Race Course on May 7. Organisers said they are looking forward to a stylish event since most race horses in the world have fashion segments that have made the events colourful. “This year marks an important history in the Castle Tankard event in the country’s horse racing calendar as we launch not only the 56th Edition of the Castle Tankard Event together with our partners Mashonaland Turf Club but also the new trendy style that has taken the Fashion Industry by storm,” noted the organiseers in a statement yesterday.

“Our theme for this year’s Fashion show event is ‘Rocking the African Print’. The African print has made it into an everyday ready to wear designs. After decades of being strictly relegated to the runway, the African print had made inroads to become an essential piece of today’s dress code. African accessories such as beads have crossed genders to become a distinguishing mark of many personalities and fashionistas.

“Gothic patterns, ethnic colors, traditional patterns, and ancient designs all form part of this latest fashion trend that all comes together in a modern design appealing to everyone.”

Models of different races, both male and females are set to mesmerise the crowd at the Castle Tankard as they showcase the latest designs of the African print.

From the VIP section to the main arena the models will parade unique and exclusive designer wear made by local designers such as Tunga, Catharine Hwata and Mr. Wil and other upcoming designers.

The fashion show will be coordinated by Stylist Wilbert Rukato a lifetime achievement award-winner in the modeling industry, owner and founder of Size4 modeling agency since 1996 and a founding member and the official spokesperson of the Modeling Industry Association of Zimbabwe.

The models will come from established modeling houses such as Top Model, Voila, Size4, and other agencies that are part of Miaz.

The public is urged this year to come “rocking in their African print”. Besides fashion show, there will be entertainment from Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Ex-Q and DJ Stavo during the horse race.
