Fashion Revolution Zimbabwe, a newly formed fashion movement will co-host the première of a fashion film “The True Cost” at Alliance Francaise tomorrow.

The film, which has only been shown in Cannes, France and The Guardian in London, is expected to officially launch on the same day with 78 other screenings according to one of the event organisers, Beryl Kanyowa.

“The True Cost’s storyline is about clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact of the fashion industry on our world today. ‘The True Cost’ is a ground-breaking documentary film that pulls the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider who really pays the price for our clothing,” Kanyowa.

He said the new production was filmed in different countries all over the world, from the bright runways to the darkest slums.

The film also features interviews of influential people like Stella McCartney, Livia Firth and Vandana Shiva.

“The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites us on an eye-opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes.

“The Fashion Revolution Zimbabwe team is proud to bring this extraordinary experience to Zimbabwe. We are one of the two hosts on the African continent and we will continue to raise the Zimbabwe flag when it comes to fashion,” he said.

Fashion Revolution has 71 platforms worldwide and fashion designer Rudo Nondo is the country co-ordinator for Zimbabwe.

Nondo leads a team which combines efforts in generating awareness, making people mindful of where their clothes are coming from.

They encourage retailers to source ethically made clothes. Fashion Revolution Zimbabwe aims to educate, empower and inspire masses particularly stakeholders in the clothing industry on the importance of consciously made fashion.
