Members of the Commercial Sugarcane Farmers Association (CSFAZ) on Thursday revoked the power of their executive members in relation to them being signatories of the association’s bank accounts.

This comes after CSFAZ administrator Mr Jairosi Masiye called for an extraordinary general meeting which was attended by scores of disgruntled members.

He elaborated that the association’s business had been grounded after the executive was interdicted last week.

“I called you to advise you that the executive and council has been interdicted from performing the association’s functions by Admore Hwarare, Tungamirai Rukatya, Daniel Tsingo and Clever Banda who went to court,” he said.

“In the circumstances, I then invited you to this urgent Extraordinary General Meeting so as to discuss the way forward since your office can no longer function fully. As we speak, one of our trucks has developed a mechanical fault at Roy and we have failed to access $45 for the mechanic to attend to it.”

Members of the association questioned Mr Masiye as to why he was not following the pronouncements which were made by the court.

One of the members, Mrs Veronica Makonese, pointed out that the court interdict made it clear that the accountant and administrator should take over operations.

Makonese, who is also the Zanu-PF Masvingo Provincial Women’s League chairperson, said all the matters raised were not supposed to create headaches for members.

“What we are here for is to give the administrator the power to run the association until elections are held,” she said. “We are very much aware of the issues which were raise by the farmers who approached the courts.

“These are genuine reasons which are very big, we don’t want to be forced into submitting into things which are not proper, administrator, just make sure you know how much is in the account and how much are you going to use and everything we will discuss after elections for a new executive.”

CSFAZ is set to hold its elections to elect the new executive on the 24th of this month.

Farmers have been at loggerheads with their interdicted executive for continuously dragging the holding of elec- tions.

The executive has also been accused of gross abuse of funds and running down the association’s assets.
