It is an action-packed weekend as Harare retains its glow with several high-profile shows lined up at most pleasure spots.
Just to whet your appetite there is the “Tuku Tribute Concert”, the Commissioner- General’s Funfair at Morris Depot, Chibuku Road To Fame tomorrow at Glamis Stadium and last but not least the Tongai Moyo Commemorative Gig.

While other gigs are not for charity, it is the annual Commissioner-General’s Funfair that seeks to raise money for charity. Since its inception, the funfair has become a must-attend for the young and old in a family environment.

Elsewhere, the “Tuku Tribute Concert” features guest appearances by well known South African big names in the likes of Hugh Masekela, Steve Dyer and Judith Sephuma at the Harare International Conference Centre tonight. The tribute gig comes hot on the heels of Mtukudzi’s 61 birthday last weekend.

The tribute show held in honour of Oliver Mtukudzi will also see other big stars among them Kenya’s Eric Wainaina, Suzanna Owiyo, Beritta Khumalo and well known music producer Keith Faquarhson taking part in the festivities.

Also performing on the second set at the concert are sungura king Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah, Victor Kunonga, Albert Nyathi and Bob Nyabinde.

But that is not all, young musicians will warm up the stage performing songs by Mtukudzi led by Munya Mataruse. The youngster, who is a product of Mtukudzi’s Pakare Paye Arts Centre will play a lead role in the first set playing the guitar, dancing on stage just like Mtukudzi.
United States-based vocalists Mary Bell and her husband Samson Fero, vocalist Dudu Manhenga, keyboardist Jairos Hambahamba lead guitarist Clive “Mono” Mukundu and vocalist/percussionist Piki Kasamba oft-called Tuku’s side-kick will have another dance on stage at the gig.

“The stage is now set for what promises to be a bigger and better concert tonight. All the performing artistes are raring to go and those who want to attend should ensure they come early at the venue and avoid last-minute rush,” Sam Mataure, Tuku’s manager, said.

This is probably is huge line-up since last year’s Tuku@60 Bash held at the Glamis Arena. The gig is being organised by the Harare Jazz Festival in conjunction with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
