Family commemorates Mangwende’s 10th anniversary

The family, relatives and friends of national hero Cde Witness Pasichigare Magunda Mangwende yesterday thronged the National Heroes Acre to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his death.In a touching ceremony, which saw his widow Mrs Eben Yananiso Mangwende laying a wreath on her husband’s grave, friends and relatives went down memory lane reminiscing their life with the departed hero.

Speaker-after-speaker spoke glowingly about Cde Mangwende whom they described as having been a unifier and a provider for those in  need.

They described the national hero as having been incorruptible and always ready to promote national development.

Among those who attended the memorial was former Herald Editor Tommy Sithole and widows of other national heroes, including Mrs Kangai and Mrs Karimanzira.

Popularly known as “Whiti”, Cde Mangwende was Member of Parliament for Mashonaland East (1985-2000), Chitungwiza (1985-2000).

He also served as Non Constituency MP from 2000 to 2005.

He is survived by his widow and a son.
