There was a scramble for CDs at Star FM early this week when scores of listeners stormed the popular radio station along Simon Mazorodze Road to grab copies of “Exposing Deception”, a programme anchored by renowned a South African scholars Thulani Timile and Richard Dhliwayo. The two scholars who anchor a programme called “Exposing Deception” in South Africa’s Jozi FM proved to be an instant hit among Star FM listeners when they challenged so-called prophets, bishops, pastors and apostles for a no-holds barred discussion.

In the programme hosted by Star FM’s presenter Napoleon “Napster” Nyanhi last Thursday, most listeners were impressed by Dhliwayo and Timile’s mastery of the Bible.

Most importantly, the show addressed controversial issues such as tithing, speaking in tongues, and why there are several denominations which have different doctrines.

Of great concern was the issue of gospel of prosperity and miracles which nowadays has become an issue at most churches.
According to Timile, the Pentecostal churches were bent on causing confusion and divisions among believers because they were focusing on individuals rather than the word of God.

It was also noted that speaking in tongues was of no importance for as long as people did not understand the meaning of the “gibberish”.
The highlight were snippets of renowned local prophets among them Uebert Angel of Spirit Embassy.

The Star FM social forum was abuzz with views from people who wanted to air their opinion on various topics which Timile and Dhliwayo had explained.

However, not every topic was exhausted due to time constraints but the debate was lively and insightful since it put to question some of the things that believers take for granted such as misquoting the Bible.

More controversial was the fact that the two Timile and Dhliwayo said they did not belong to any denomination and neither were they aiming at forming their own church.
