Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central Youth League chairman Cde Godfrey Tsenengamu has called for the expulsion of former Vice President Joice Mujuru from the revolutionary party as a way of dealing decisively with the cancer of factionalism.

Cde Tsenengamu said this at the weekend while addressing hundreds of zanu-pf supporters at a belated 21st February Movement celebrations at Centenary Country Club.

Cde Tsenengamu said Dr Mujuru’s continued membership of zanu-pf was giving remnants of her faction hope of regrouping and launching another attempt to unseat the President.

“We expelled Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo and Temba Mliswa for belonging to the faction that wanted to assassinate the President, but nothing has happened to Mai Mujuru despite confessions by all these people we have expelled that she was their leader.

“The situation is similar to what happened in the bible when the Philistines cut Samson’s long hair and gorged his eyes and thought they had managed to deal with him.

“What they didn’t know is that his hair grew and he regained his strength. This is exactly what we are facing now. The people who belong to Mai Mujuru are regrouping and until we deal with the leader of the faction, we will face similar problems in the future,” Cde Tsenengamu said.

He added that any disciplinary measures being taken against Dr Mujuru’s acolytes would be in vain if she remained a member of the party.

“Everything we have done and are doing will come to naught if she remains in the party because they will continue to plot against the President.

“So we are saying, as youths, we want the party leadership to deal with this matter urgently or as the vanguard of the party we will take matters into our hands just like what the angel Michael took the lead in fighting Lucifer when he rebelled against God. We should not kill the messenger alone because that will not kill the message,” Cde Tsenengamu said.

Dr Mujuru lost her Central Committee and Politburo seats ahead of the Sixth zanu-pf National People’s Congress after she was exposed for leading a cabal that wanted to carry out a coup against the President.

She was eventually fired from Government together with 17 other ministers and deputy ministers that were part of her cabal.

Turning to other matters, Cde Tsenengamu said President Mugabe’s visionary leadership was the reason zanu-pf had withstood attempts from within and without to destabilise it.

“The President has shown visionary and courageous leadership and this is the main reason Zanu-PF has remained a strong and vibrant party since its formation in 1963.

“As youths, we promise that we will continue to fight to maintain his vision for Zimbabwe based mainly on our sovereignty and empowerment of indigenous people,” he said.
