Former Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe Mashonaland Central co-ordinator Bornface Poshai reportedly swindled the union of about $10 800 after claiming money, some of it purportedly for President Mugabe’s birthday hosted in Mashonaland Central in 2013. Poshai (44) of number 4712 New Sim Park, Ushewokunze, in Harare appeared before Bindura magistrate Mr Eric Kadye facing 10 counts of theft.
The complainant in the matter is TUZ Bindura represented by its provincial co-ordinator Mr Waison Kandigi.

Prosecutor Mr Jeftah Chikura alleged that on November 12, 2012 Poshai approached TUZ Bindura secretary Rumbidzai Sithole and demanded $4 200 purporting that it was for the service of a Bindura housing project. It is alleged that on December 11 2012, Poshai asked for $1 000, which Sithole had received from Harare sub-office. On January 9 last year Poshai demanded another $1 000 meant for the housing project but did not sign for or hand over the money, it is alleged. The court heard that on January 21, 2013 TUZ Bindura lost another $1 000 to Poshai.

It is alleged that on February 8 2013, Poshai was given $4 500 which was withdrawn by the chairperson of Bindura TUZ Simbilisio Rupfunde and the money was to be surrendered to TUZ head office in Harare.

Poshai received another $300 on February 27, 2013 from Sithole, which was to be handed over to the President’s Office for President Mugabe’s birthday when it was hosted in Mashonaland Central, the court heard.
Sithole was not given a receipt by Poshai as confirmation that the President’s Office had received the money.

On December 31 2012, Poshai received $350 from TUZ which was meant for schools outreach, it is alleged.
It is alleged that Poshai was given another $350 on February 28, 2013, and an additional $350 on March 29, 2013 for the schools outreach programme.

It was later discovered that Poshai was double dipping and he reimbursed $2 000. TUZ was prejudiced of $10 800 and nothing was recovered. He is expected in court on May 15.
