IN a bid to find solutions to problems afflicting the national game, the Lifelong Footballers Trust of Zimbabwe have convened a meeting of former and current club owners and investors at Raylton Sports Club at the weekend. There has been growing concern over the collapse of clubs and academies, particularly the individually owned while those still existing have been battling for survival.

It is against this background that the Life Long Footballers Trust, a group of former administrators have undertaken an ambitious initiative to try and bring together the club owners and those companies and individuals that have over the years invested in the domestic game.

The convenor of the indaba, Francis Zimunya, said yesterday that he believed the stakeholders had a lot to share in trying to find solutions to the problems haunting the Zimbabwean game and which has manifested itself in the failure by the national teams and local clubs on the international stage.

Zimunya said they were hopeful that the indaba would be the first major step to address some of the recurrent problems in Zimbabwean football and also create an understanding on why some investors have turned their backs on the game.

“We want to find out from former owners why they left football. What were their experiences, what were the positives and what were the negatives and what is it that they think should be done for them to develop football instead of quitting.

“We want to understand from their experience what it is that they think should have been done at that particular time when they decided to quit football,” he said
