DUMISO Dabengwa’s Zapu, which held a congress last week in Bulawayo, apparently appointed former Zimbabwe Mirror editor Mr Tawanda Majoni into its national executive committee as information and publicity secretary without his knowledge and consent, it has emerged. Zapu is among fringe opposition political parties that have been very vocal of late accusing Government of being undemocratic, among other allegations.Mr Dabengwa was re-elected Zapu president at the congress.

Mr Majoni yesterday confirmed Zapu appointed him to the post without even consulting him.

‘’I would like to make it abundantly clear that I am not interested in the position that Zapu offered me and wish the party the best of luck in finding a person who would fill the post of information and publicity secretary,” said Mr Majoni.

Yesterday Mr Dabengwa insisted Mr Majoni was a party member whose appointment was done above board.

“I am not a party member, I have never been. They are no records linking me to that party,” insisted Mr Majoni.

He added: “I only learnt of the appointment through a phone call from one of the Zapu senior members after the congress and also via media reports.

‘’In addition, I am not a member of Zapu or any other political institution and was not even invited to the Zapu congress.”

Yesterday Mr Dabengwa insisted Mr Majoni was a party member whose appointment was done above board.

But when asked why Zapu appointed a non-card carrying member into its national executive and without his consent, Mr Dabengwa said: “Somebody said he is a member of the party.”

Yesterday Mr Dabengwa insisted Mr Majoni was a party member whose appointment was done above board.

Mr Dabengwa sought to know if it was Mr Majoni who had alerted The Herald about the “scandalous appointment”.

Mr Dabengwa left Zanu-PF for Dr Simba Makoni’s Mavambo/Dawn/Kusile.

After the MKD project failed Mr Dabengwa is trying to revive Zapu.

After Mr Dabengwa insisted that Mr Majoni is a member of the opposition party, The Herald again sought clarity with him.

“I am not a party member, I have never been. They are no records linking me to that party,” said Mr Majoni.
