The education system will be overhauled to ensure that it produces graduates with survival skills in case they are not able to make use of their academic knowledge, a Government minister has said.Speaking at Zanu-PF election victory celebrations in Chivi South held at ward 31 councillor Cde Killer Zivhu’s homestead on Saturday, Minister of State for Liaising on Psychomotor Activities in Education Cde Josiah Hungwe said his ministry would provide the missing link in education.

The celebrations were attended by hundreds of people and was turned into a dance fiesta, with gospel musician Methias Mhere belting out his hit songs.

“Our education is being led in one path,” he said. “We have more than 90 percent of literacy rate, but the graduates are nothing because their education is not strong.

“You can have a degree, but you can not make a chair, build a house or do simple farming. President Mugabe this time said we have to do it right. We want to make sure that we are able to link subjects such as English with farming and other skills.

“Psychomotor will be applied from early learning, with the pupils being taught survival skills. That is what we call education for life.”
Minister Hungwe commended Cde Zivhu for organising the victory celebrations and for establishing a flourishing small-scale irrigation scheme at his rural home, saying that such a skill would be encouraged by his ministry in schools.
