Bald-styled gospel musician Abraham Mutuka recently hosted a Chistmas party for young offenders at Hwahwa Prison. The musician also gave the youths early Christmas gifts which included clothes, food and basic commodities valued at hundreds of dollars.

The treat was a follow-up promise after he had visited the prison earlier this year and held a community service day with them.

He also performed his latest songs at the function which saw AAFM ministry officials attending in support of the initiative.

In an interview, the musician said it was part of their social responsibility and will not tire but continue doing the good work.

“Sometimes you definitely need time off the stage and give back to the community. These are the people who love our music so I thought why not give them a live show.

“I am happy with the idea and managed to get support from the corporate world. We had a fabulous time with the young offenders from drinking to merry making. My goal is not only to preach the word of God through music but to practise what I preach too,” he said.

Mutuka said he and his team took the opportunity to host a counselling session for the young offenders.

“The Bible said, ‘thou shall not judge’. The young offenders should not be judged for their deeds. We should look at the cause of what happened. We took the time to share experiences, lifestyle and counselling each other. I was deeply touched by what I heard. Only God can judge them and forgive them. The young offenders are talented too as you could tell from the short presentations they did,” he said.

He said he was already working on a song dedicated to them on his next album.

“I am working on my latest album and I am going to include one song dedicated to the young offenders. To me, the word prisoners is heavy. 2016 is a great year for us as I have planned to host concerts in prisons across Zimbabwe. I will be leaving for an international tour early next year,” he said.

Recently, the “Vina Vina” hit-maker hosted a successful tour in South Africa.
