PETER Dube was confirmed as the Highlanders chairman for another term at the club’s annual meeting in Bulawayo yesterday. Former chairman, Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda, who was challenging the decision to elbow him out of the election process, failed in his bid to have the members overturn that decision.

That left the path clear for Dube to be in charge of the country’s oldest football team for another term.

Maphepha had been the sole challenger and commanded a huge constituency among the members, which was backing him. But Bosso are a team that respect the decisions of their arms and the members felt yesterday that they could not overturn the decision made by the committee that ruled that Maphepha could not stand for elections as the Highlanders chairman.

Maphepa was found to be not of good standing by the committee to fight for the club’s chairmanship because of the controversy related to proceeds from the sale of Obadiah Tarumbwa to Belgium.

The former Bosso team manager maintains that he is innocent of any wrong dealings in the transaction.

Dube will retain his post as the Premier Soccer League vice-chairman.

The decision by the club’s members to retain Dube will be welcomed by the new technical team, led by Bongani Mafu, as they were concerns that a new leadership might decide on a new coaching staff.

Maphepha was the last Bosso chairman to guide the Bulawayo giants to league championship honours in 2006.
