For example, M-Net Action will now be called M-Net Movies Action while M-Net Stars will assume the M-Net Movies Stars.
The eight movie channels will be themed according to their type.
The channels include M-Net Movies Premiere, M-Net Movies Comedy, M-Net Movies Family, M-Net Action Plus, M-Net Movies Drama and Romance and M-Net Movies Showcase.
Movies released by Hollywood studios will be screened first on M Premiere or M-Net on a Sunday night at 8pm.
Thereafter the movie will be screened again in relevant themed channel.
The themed channels will also show movies related to that theme.
There were only two channels thus (M-Net Action and M-Net Stars) which focused on movies but now viewers have a variety of choices of more than two.
Multichoice public relations and publicity manager Elizabeth Dziva explained this new development.
“The new channels have been added to the existing bouquets, only Premium subscribers will get new channels with the exception of compact and compact plus subscribers who will get an additional channel in the form of Africa Magic Movies1. The boutique price still remains the same,” said Dziva.
Recently DStv launched a new satellite that according to Dziva has necessitated the addition of more channels.
“We recently launched a new satellite which will give us the ability to offer you more channels and services,” she said.
“In order to accommodate these new channels and make channel navigation more user-friendly, we have arranged the channels into genres which have resulted in some of the channel position and hence numbers changing,” said Dziva.
However, the news, children and sports channels will not change the channel numbers.
“These changes will happen automatically on the morning of October 1 and as a way to curb confusion on the re-numbering, information on reshuffle can be obtained from DStv’s official website.
Channel 198, which is usually dedicated to Big Brother reality show, will be used to help viewers navigate the channel number changes.
