last week there was a drama competition for Warren Park-Mabelreign district which was running under the theme “Aiming Towards a Quality and Choreography Drama”. It was glitz and glamour at Christ Ministries High School and only seven schools in the district managed to come which were Christ Ministries High, Ellis Robins Boys High, Mother Touch High, Dzivarasekwa I High, Warren Park High, Dzivarasekwa 2 High and Kuwadzana 2 High.

This was a big arts event in the district because many students, especially actors and actresses, were showcasing their talents. The competition started at 09.00am and ended at 4.00pm. There were three judges including one of Zimbabwe’s well known arts celebrities Albert Nyathi. The guest of honour for this event was the district education officer.

Each school had only 30 minutes and three bells were rung, first one 20 minutes, second one 25 minutes and the last one to stop on 30 minutes. There were presents and certificates for best play director, best actor and actress for each school, overal best actor and actress for the day.

The best director was from Christ Ministries, the host school, followed by Ellis Robins Boys High and third was Mother Touch High School. The best actors for the event were from Ellis Robins. Best actress for the event was from Warren Park High and Dzivarasekwa 1 High’s best act or was Terrence while Catherine became the actress of the competition.

Christ Ministries won the competition and will represent the district in further competitions. Ellis Robins was second, third position was Mother Touch, Dzivarasekwa in fourth place, Warren Park in fifth place, Dzivarasekwa 2 High in Sixth place and Kuwadzana 2 High was the last in seventh position. Students had a chance to showcase their talents even though some could not proceed to the national competition.

In an interview with best actor from Christ Ministries he said, “The road to success is very long and takes time. But the truth is quitting won’t speed it up. Patiently follow your dreams.”

Arts celebrity Albert Nyathi said, “Throw your dreams into space like a kite and you do not know what it will bring back – a new life, a new friend and a new country. If you want to enjoy, always think life is long but if you want to achieve something, always think life is very short.”

It was all joy and tears as the victors celebrated their win whereas losers comforting themselves that next time they will do better’!!!!
