THE long-awaited second round of the 2015 Telecel Drag Racing Series is fast approaching for drag racing fans in Harare. This Sunday will see the usual fanfare associated with Zimbabwe’s premier motorsport at Donnybrook in Harare once again.

After a fantastic event in March this year that saw almost 90 competitors battling it out in front of 3 000 plus spectators, this Sunday’s event looks set to provide adrenaline action once again.

With similar numbers of competitors expected at the upcoming event, drivers and riders will have to race hard or risk falling back within their classes.

At the top of the car league, Terry Allberry looks to be the biggest worry to his adversaries after adding some serious power modifications to his V8 AC Cobra. Long standing number one, Alan Cacace, also in a nitrous powered V8 AC Cobra, may have some serious competition on his hands now.

To add to the pressure there is also a whole host of turbo cars hard on the tails of the V8 cars currently in the lead.

On the turbo front, Kevin Almark, in the black Subaru, and Mano Zevgolis, in the hp lubes/Castrol MR2, have been working hard to close the gap on the front runners.

Also among the leader pack, Mebs Kerbelkar in the blue Subaru and Adam Saiyad in the R34 Skyline will be will be fighting out the “turbo wars”.

On the bikes, reigning champion Phil Archenoul and closest rival Les Carlsson, who battled it out for supremacy at the first event, look to still be in a league of their own without any serious threats to worry about.

Leading the points in the bracket racing competition introduced at the March event is Arist Koutoungos in his Toyota Corolla and Theo da Fonseca on his Suzuki GSXR.

Serious contenders for this year-end Bracket Champion title will need to make a consistent appearance at all events in order to score points.

Competition is fierce at all levels, not just at the top.

With eight motor vehicle and three motorcycle classes, personal vendettas and improvements to competitor vehicles will ensure action throughout the very varied list of competitors.
