The Dr Nero commemoration show to honour the late dendera musician Naison Chimbetu would be a platform for upcoming artists to showcase their talents, organisers have said. Naison died on March 6, 2005 and last year he was commemorated in a big at a show that saw warring musicians from Chimbetu family coming together for the first time. This year the gig will see Alick Macheso, Charles Charamba, Olivia Charamba,  the Chimbetus – Tryson, Allan, Sulumani and Douglas performing in Harare Gardens on April 6. In an interview Biggie Chinoperekwi who is the organiser of the event said they have called upon upcoming artists to come and show people their talent at the event. “We have called upon upcoming artists to come and perform at the event so that they can show music fans, promoters and fellow musicians their capacity,” he said.

Savious Mawere a dendera musician who was inspired by Naison was ecstatic about the call from the promoter.

“The call has come on the right time because I was looking forward to perform alongside the Chimbetu family because Naison inspired me to be a musician,” he said.

He will be sampling songs from his debut album “Stories in Chapter One” that has six-tracks namely “Melody”, “Baba Vevana”, “Roora”, “Girlfriend”, “Kupatsanura” and “Musandikanganwe”.

The musician who is a taxi driver by profession said this is an opportunity he would not want to miss in his life. “We are working hard to make sure our performance will convince Zimbabweans that there is talent out there,” he said. “Dr Nero” as Naison was fondly known was credited for his input on some of Simon’s songs.  Simon and Naison took the industry by storm with their Marxist Brothers before parting ways. Naison formed G7 Commandos the group he lead up to his death. His son Tryson has taken over his father’s music heritage. Meanwhile Macheso and Tryson have left the country for their shows in South Africa over the weekend. Macheso will be performing at Raz Mataz in Johannesburg while Tryson performs at Transvaal Hotel in Boksburg.
