Don’t fight over political differences, says Shiri

fight over political differences as elections come and go, while relations were permanent. He said a peaceful environment was one of the basis on which the liberation struggle was waged and it was the reason for the existence of security forces in countries.

He was addressing villagers in Sengwe, Chikomba District, where he donated various goods sourced under the Commander AFZ Charity Fund.

“Election is not the end of the world. Elections come and go. Relatives fight over political differences. We see in-laws, brothers, uncles and nephews fighting because there were people who came with their political messages. We want peace. For development to take place there should be peace,” said Air Marshal Shiri.

He said it was disheartening to note that relatives were rising against each other over political differences, something he said should never happen.

He urged people to discern political messages they would have received from different political parties as the country gears towards the harmonised election set for July 31.

“You are adults and can’t fail to distinguish between God and the devil. You can not fail to tell who is saying what is good for you as a black person. You are not a white person or green. You cannot fail to tell what is good for you. But if you feel that what is good for whites is equally good for you, that is your choice,” said Air Marshal Shiri.

He said people never fight because of a variance of political messages.

“Some will come to you saying we will give you money. Others will say we will give you land. That’s what they think, that is politics. Who are you then to rise and assault another person for speaking out his political views?” said Air Marshal Shiri.

He urged people to report pepertrators of political violence to the police or to ignore them.

Turning to the distribution of the various goods he brought, Air Marshal Shiri said they should be given to those in need regardless of their political persuasion.

“Be they from the black, green or red party, for as long as they need a blanket, they must receive from this donation,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zanu-PF candidate for the Chikomba East National Assembly seat Cde Edgar Mbwembwe commended Air Marshal Shiri for the kind gesture he had shown.

He urged youths to work hard to become better future leaders.

The goods included blankets, shoes, exercise books among others.
