Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Advocate Martin Dinha yesterday hailed the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Dr Jorum Gumbo for rehabilitating the road network in the province. Speaking to a technical team from the ministry in Shamva, Adv Dinha said construction and maintenance of roads in the province was likely to boost economic development.

He urged other ministries to expeditiously meet the targets they had set for the province.
“I am pleased with the quick response by the Ministry of Transport in addressing issues of road infrastructure in Mashonaland Central, especially the road that links Bindura and Shamva and also the one that links Harare and Bindura. These roads are critical because most people use them to conduct business,” he said.

Adv Dinha commended the Ministry of Transport for resealing the Nyaure Bridge along the Domboshava-Muchapondwa-Bindura Road, an undertaking which cost $74 423. The province’s road engineer, Eng Ernest Shenje, who gave an update on the road roadworks, said Government had finished resealing part of the Harare-Bindura Road, while works on resealing the 10km stretch of the Mvurwi-Kanyemba Road had begun. “We expect to complete the Mvurwi-Kanyemba project by end of October this year; that is, if we don’t face unforeseen challenges,” said Eng Shenje.

Reconstruction of the Bindura-Shamva Road, which started more than 20 years ago, but had to be stopped due to lack of funding, has also commenced. The reconstruction is expected to be completed by end of November this year. According to Eng Shenje, construction of a Landing Bay at Kanyemba Border Post will start on October 16 and the rehabilitation of the Ndodahondo Road, which links Zimbabwe and Mozambique was underway.
