Chimurenga musician Thomas Mapfumo last week signed a contract with a local recording company Diamond Studios it has emerged. According to information gathered by the Herald Entertainment the two parties agreed last week that the recording stable will market and distribute his music in Zimbabwe.

Previously the musician’s music was being distributed and marketed by Metro studios.
“They had a meeting in which the musician agreed to have his music being distributed and marketed with Diamond studios,” said a source.

Both sides confirmed the development yesterday but could not give further details about the deal.
Steady Munyanyi the managing director of Diamond Studios said he could not divulge information to the press.

“It is true that we agreed with the musician but unfortunately we are not at liberty to divulge our contractual agreement to the press,” said Munyanyi.

Pressed further he said they will be responsible for marketing his music here in Zimbabwe.
“We will be responsible for distributing and marketing his music but the recording is done in the United States of America where the musician is based,” he said.

Mapfumo’s publicist Blessing Vava said they were now working with diamond studios but could not divulge more information.
“How did you get the news? Anyway we are still negotiating though some of the things have been agreed,” said Vava.

Vava said there was nothing amiss in them signing with Diamond Studios.
Recently Mapfumo announced that he was due to release a new album in July titled “Dangerzone” which will be the first album to be marketed and distributed by Diamond Studios here in Zimbabwe.

The Chimurenga icon has over the past few years produced new versions of his previous hits with just a few new works coming out.
