DeMbare still hold the aces Dynamos

CAPS United have fought bravely in their two back-to-back matches against Dynamos, but the Glamour Boys still believe they have the psychological edge to win again when the two giants battle in the Harare Derby on Sunday. The Green Machine fought their way back, from a goal down, to force a 1-1 draw in the first league match at the National Sports Stadium with Malawian international midfielder, Gerald Phiri, scoring a memorable equaliser.

But there was no way back for Makepekepe in the NetOne OneWallet quarter-final at the same stadium and against the same opponents, with DeMbare scoring a late goal for another routine victory against their bitter rivals.

Rodreck Mutuma, the self-styled Prince of the domestic Premiership, scored the priceless goal that settled a contest, though not rich in quality, but clearly long on attrition.

Mutuma’s availability on Sunday for the reverse fixture of the Harare Derby, was in doubt this week amid indications that he is being tempted by offers from South African clubs who have been impressed by his performances in the last two matches.

Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro last night said Mutuma was still in the country and he expects him to be available for the league match on Sunday.

“He is here and he is available for Sunday,” Chihoro told The Herald last night.
But, of course, in this game nothing can be taken for granted.

Mutuma has worked his way back into the hearts of the DeMbare fans by providing life to an attack that, until his return, was lacking the cutting edge and was clearly the team’s weakest link.

His two goals, in three matches, marks a good start and he has brought that arrogance, which the likes of Washington Pakamisa, clean-cut fellows who try by all means not to court controversy, cannot provide.

The hard working Pakamisa has one goal all season, which is a poor return by any standard for a man who plays in that last line of attack, but his goal-return has been an insult for the industry that he gives in every shift.
Chihoro expects another tough game against their biggest rivals.

“It will be a difficult game as Derbies are always tricky but I hope, at the end of the day, we are going to celebrate a win,” said Chihoro.
“We are not intimidated.

“The last two games we played them we can say that they did better than they were doing in the past but at the end of the day, this game is all about results and we can say that we were the better team in the last game because that’s what the result says.

“The games have been very close contests but we feel that our win in the last game will be a morale booster for us going into the next match this coming weekend.

“We are ready for the match and we will try to get the result that matters for us and everyone connected to our team.”
Dynamos are reported to have signed highly-rated central defender Elisha Muroiwa from Division One side Twalumba.
The Glamour Boys are looking for a replacement for Partson Jaure, who has left the team to join South African side Pretoria University.
CAPS United will miss their regular centreback, Steve Makatuka, who is suspended after accumulating three yellow cards.

It is unlikely that his regular partner in the heart of that defence, David Chipala, who limped out of the last game, will have recovered in time for Sunday’s match. But Malawian George Nyirenda, who replaced Chipala, impressed in his first big match, playing simple but effective football at the back, and could be thrown into the deep end on Sunday.
