DYNAMOS strikers Roderick Mutuma and Takesure Chinyama are set to face Premier Soccer League sanctions after they took their frustration of a poor Chibuku Super Cup final showing on Bulawayo referee Pilani Ncube who they heckled at the end of a 2-1 losing cause to Harare City at the National Sports Stadium. Mutuma and Chinyama struggled with their game on a sunny afternoon at the giant stadium and instead for conceding defeat gracefully, the pair blamed their loss on Ncube who they wanted to manhandle soon after he blew the final whistle.

The DeMbare players’ rowdy behaviour was the only blemish to an otherwise well organised final for which Premier Soccer League chief executive Kenny Ndebele his secretariat and the Delta Beverages team led by the company’s marketing director Maxen Karombo deserve plaudits for a splendid family afternoon outing that was spiced up by car and other prizes raffle

Television replays also later showed Chinyama and Mutuma charging at the match official, shrugging off the restraints of their captain Ocean Mushure and Zimbabwe Republic Police details. It had to take the intervention of the Dynamos marshals led by club chief security officer Cephas Museba to come to Ncube’s rescue and ensure the referees would be ready to lead the teams to the medals presentation ceremony.

But with both the PSL and the referees following strict protocol, the DeMbare players will know of their fate only after the match reports have been submitted. Ndebele said they had not received the match report from the referee as well as that of the match commissioner before announcing their official position. The PSL chief executive, however, condemned the behaviour exhibited by the Dynamos players.

Former referee and match commissioner of the day Brighton Mudzamiri could not be drawn to comment on the incident and said “as usual he will provide a match report to the Premier Soccer League’’. Ndebele said they would issue a statement today after receiving the reports from the match officials.

“We are worried about such kind of incidents but I cannot say much at the moment. We will issue out a report after we have received the referee’s and the match commissioner’s reports otherwise generally it was a good Chibuku Super Cup,’’ said Ndebele.

Referee Ncube was also subjected to missile throwing by a section of the Dynamos fans as he made his way to the dressing room at half-time with the Bulawayo official and his assistants having to dash for cover under the spectator bays at the National Sports Stadium. That ugly incident at half-time could also earn Dynamos a PSL disciplinary committee penalty, as clubs are held responsible for the behaviour of their supporters.
