DEFENDING champions Dynamos have opted for Gwanzura and return to the Highfield venue for a league match against newboys Flame Lily on Sunday.Their traditional home ground, Rufaro, will be used by the Mighty Warriors when they host Ghana in an All-Africa Games qualifier.
DeMbare last played a competitive match at Gwanzura in August last year when they suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Black Rhinos in the quarter-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup.

Team manager Richard Chihoro said they were happy at Gwanzura than the National Sports Stadium.

“We have no problem playing at Gwanzura. There is a lawn surface just like the National Sports Stadium and, obviously, we had to consider our supporters as well when making such decisions.

“We have played there before and it seems Gwanzura is nearer to the majority of the fans than the National Sports Stadium,” said Chihoro.

Flame Lily are still hunting for their first win since getting promotion.

The side is coached by former Black Rhinos coach Nesbert Saruchera.

Flame Lily will warm up to the big game with a tricky visit to FC Platinum this afternoon to clear a fixture backlog. However, the David versus Goliath clash is likely to provide a big counter-attraction for the Mighty Warriors’ cause as Rosemary Mugadza’s ladies will be seeking a good backing to overturn a 2-1 deficit they suffered in the first leg three weeks ago in Accra.

PSL chief executive, Kenny Ndebele, yesterday said they could not move the fixture because of a tight programme ahead.

“We are cognisant of the women’s assignment but we cannot continue moving games every week, seeing already that we have a backlog.
“There are some matches that need to be rescheduled and the fixtures programme is heavily congested this year because of the national team assignments.

“At the same time clubs are finding it difficult in their operations because they rely mostly on gate takings.  So if we move this game to midweek then the club would be prejudiced of potential income.

“We talked to Dynamos to find out where they are comfortable playing because there was also another option at the National Sports Stadium and they indicated they are fine at Gwanzura. “They have played there before and it’s their choice,” said Ndebele.
