DYNAMOS have said they want to return to the CAF inter-club competitions next season by winning the Chibuku Super Cup which could give them a ticket into the Confederation Cup.

After drifting further from the league’s leading pack over the weekend, following a damaging defeat at the hands of Highlanders, DeMbare appear to have realised they can’t make the Champions League next season.

The Glamour Boys now have turned their focus on the CAF Confederation Cup.

Team manager Richard Chihoro said their mission was to try and return to the African safari.

“We want to play in Africa (competitions). If we win the league this season we will feature in the Champions League, but chances are now very slim even though we are still hoping for that,” said Chihoro.

“But looking at Chibuku Super Cup, we get renewed strength that our dream can still be possible and we can still play in the Confederation Cup.

“We have a good record in the tournament and last year we lost to Harare City in the final, but we can go all the way this time.

“We have to win the Chibuku Cup at all costs so that we appease our fans. We are a big club and have to win at least some silverware at the end of the season.”

Chihoro said when they regrouped for this week’s training sessions yesterday, there was disappointment among the players following that demoralising loss to Bosso.

“We are hungrier and we are more focused than ever. Please note that we have not thrown in the towel in the title race and we have told the players that the battle is not yet over, but we are saying in the Chibuku Super Cup our destiny is in our own hands unlike in the league,” said Chihoro.

DeMbare met How Mine in the first round of the same tournament last year.

“It is not a team which can be taken lightly and we have to work if we want to reach the final and win the Cup,” said Chihoro.

“We watched How Mine when they played FC Platinum and they created a lot of chances in the second half and we know what to expect from them in this game.

“I believe we are at an advantage, playing at our home especially in a Cup game, and we will try to utilise that.”

Meanwhile, one of the finest players to play in the domestic Premiership, Rio Tinto star David Chisambi, was buried in Kadoma yesterday.

Chisambi, one of the greatest Rio Tinto players of all-time, died in Kadoma at the weekend.

Among those who paid their last respects to the outstanding footballer was former Rio Tinto and Zimbabwe centreback, the immortal Ephert Lungu, who played alongside Chisambi in the finest Rio sides of the early ‘80s.
