ZIMBABWE’S Brendon de Jonge continued his impressive form and went into yesterday’s second round of the Zurich Classic tied on pole position in New Orleans in the United States.

He shot an eight-under 64 for a share of the lead in an opening round hit by rain.

The 34-year-old Zimbabwean, who is searching for his first tour win, was tied with American Boo Weekley.

De Jonge has participated in over 200 tournaments and won over $10 million on the US PGA Tour.

He played the back nine first on Thursday and had several good shots during the round.

He birdied the 11th from seven feet out, and then fired his second to the par-four 12th within a foot.

After draining in the birdie, De Jonge made it three in a row with another tap-in birdie on number 13.

De Jonge ran home a 26-footer for birdie on the fourth to kick-off a second run of three-straight birdies.

His birdies at five and six came from 19 and 12 feet.

He closed with three pars to finish tied with Weekley.

“I left a couple of shots on the par 5s but made it up on the par fours,” said De Jonge, who added he had never played well in New Orleans.

“The course was there for the taking.

“You’ve obviously got to hit the fairways, but the tour let us play (lift, clean and place), so that was the key out there today.”
