Day-old chicks shortage hits province

Lovemore Kadzura Eastern Correspondent
A shortage of day-old chicks has hit Manicaland following an outbreak of Avian flu two months ago.

According to Manicaland Federation of Young Farmers coordinator Mr Farai Mapfumo, erratic supply of day old chicks was affecting business. Mr Mapfumo said young farmers survived on chicken rearing as the business had quick returns.

“We can confirm that there is an acute shortage of day old chicks,” he said.
“The shortage is a result of the Avian influenza that has also affected the largest distributor of poultry products, Irvines.

“Poultry farmers have been greatly affected because they are not getting the supplies on time.”
