An elderly man was yesterday arraigned before the courts after he was found in possession of 76,52 kg of marijuana valued at $6 000 at Mbare Musika.

Peter Nyamitambo (79) is jointly charged with Passmore Makombe (20) and Charles Tawe (36).

The trio appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Shelly Zvenyika charged with unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.

They all denied the allegations. Ms Zvenyika remanded them to today for bail ruling.

The prosecutor Mr Nelson Makwinyire opposed bail arguing that the trio was a flight risk.

“The accused persons are facing a very serious offence and if freed on bail they might abscond.

“There is overwhelming evidence against them and they are likely to get a custodial sentence upon conviction,” he said.

The trio argued that they were victims of circumstances as they did not know anything about the offence.

They said they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Allegations are that on July 5 Makombe arrived from Nyanga with 76,52 kg of dagga and left it in a Mwayera bus.

The court heard that Makombe made arrangements with Nyamitambo whom he gave a bag of dagga.
