Dad strangles daughters in paternity row

The incident occurred in Chief Chitsungo’s area in Guruve on Wednesday, police have said.

According to police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka, Nyasha Muradzi (30) had a dispute with his wife in South Africa over the paternity of the two children.
Chief Supt Mandipaka said the wife disclosed to him that he was not the biological father of their two daughters — Panashe (10) and Kudzai (4).

This revelation did not go down well with Muradzi, who returned to Zimbabwe with the two children early last month without the mother’s knowledge.
On Wednesday at around 10pm, Muradzi allegedly took the elder daughter to a maize field and strangled her with a rope, Chief Supt Mandipaka said.
After that, he said Muradzi then took the younger daughter to the same spot and also strangled her to death using the same rope.

It is alleged that he juxtaposed the children’s bodies before returning to the village. The alleged double murder only came to light yesterday when Muradzi surrendered himself to police and confessed to killing the children.
