Tonderai Rutsito Tech Spot
Chartered Systems Integration, a Zimbabwean based ICT company has developed smart city parking technology that assist drivers to locate parking space easily. The technology, which was officially commissioned in Rome, Italy last week, was developed in conjunction with Nabla

Framework Roman Society which is active in the incubator ITech BIC Lazio and Chartered Systems Integration.

The technology uses wireless sensors that are installed in individual parking spaces at ground level that indicate whether a bay is occupied or free.
The system unifies the hardware infrastructure Sky Light Parking Systems designed by Nabla Quadro and the software ProPark designed by CSI to provide a solution that exterminates revenue leakages, improves revenue flows and reporting for parking authorities, while significantly reducing traffic jams (30 percent of which is generated by drivers cruising around looking for parking spots).

A recent survey by ACI (Automobile Club Italia) states that, considering only the 5 most traffic congested cities in Italy, the value of the time people spend in traffic jams is over 5 billion Euros.

On balance, a system that guides drivers to a free space could lead to a potential saving of 1,5 billion Euros per year.
The technology also keeps a record of the period that a vehicle has been parked in a bay and can detect expired parking tickets.

The integration with the Propark application software developed by CSI allows managers and operators of the parking lot to monitor in real time the status of the payment of bays occupied and issue penalties for illegal situations.

Additional features on the ProPark allows the technology to alert owners or drivers of the parked vehicles of the status of their parking tickets, whether they are about to or have expired) via their smartphones. It also allows the owners or drivers to extend the time via an SMS.

CSI business development analyst Mr Macdonald Ndovi said they were expecting to introduce the new technology in Zimbabwe soon.
“We are just finalising all the logistical issues with the relevant authorities,” he said.

CSI was founded in 2007 and has grown rapidly by developing technology solutions for the banking sectors and governments in Africa.
Some of its solutions are being used in Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Uganda, Egypt, Morocco, United Kingdom, United States, India, Kenya, South Africa, Dubai, Germany and Tanzania. – TechnoMag/parking network.
