Cop accused of abuse of office

Primrose Nyanzero Herald Reporter
A police officer has been hauled to court on allegations of abuse of office after he reportedly demanded sexual favours from a complainant who had visited the station to file a report. Tonderai Mugumi (21), stationed at ZRP Zengeza, allegedly wanted to be intimate with Synodia Memory Moyo in exchange for arresting the suspect she had filed a report against.

Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Oliver Mapfumo, Mugumi denied the charges. The matter was further remanded to today. The prosecutor Mr Tatenda Mukatera alleged that on September 16 this year, at around 1am, Moyo went to file a report at ZRP Zengeza. After reporting her case, Mugumi, who was on duty, offered to accompany her back to her place of residence in Unit H, Seke, as it was late. It is alleged that while the two were on their way, Mugumi requested for sexual favours in order to bring the suspect to book. Moyo pretended as if she was in agreement and when they arrived at her place, she said she was looking for condoms while Mugumi was undressing. She managed to seize Mugumi’s police uniform and proceeded to make a police report using the uniform as an exhibit. In his defence, Mugumi claimed Moyo was framing him since she was the one who offered to be intimate with him in exchange for $5, a proposal that he declined.
