Comprehensive foreign policy launched

Somali foreign-ministerMOGADISHU. — The Federal Republic of Somalia on Sunday launched a comprehensive foreign policy to guide its relationship with the outside world in crucial matters like trade and war against terrorism.

According to a statement from the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the launch of the new foreign policy is part of a broader goal to ensure the country will become a critical player in multilateral affairs.

“Somalia’s foreign policy is built on the pillars of promoting national, regional and international peace and security through effective participation in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy,” read the statement from the ministry.

The Federal Republic of Somalia with the help of the international community has accelerated reconstruction after two decades of civil strife.

Likewise, the horn of Africa state has re-established diplomatic ties with many bilateral partners to promote trade, investments, peace and security.

“We are committed to the implementation of obligations regarding international treaties and conventions and the promotion of commercial and economic activities for sustainable development,” noted the statement from the ministry.

Somalia is committed to work with neighbouring countries and the international community to tackle wide ranging challenges that include conflicts, terrorism, poverty and environmental degradation.

According to the statement, the pursuit of peace and sustainable development underpins the new foreign policy.

“Our foreign policy has its roots in collaboratively working to ensure peace, progress and prosperity in the region and the world,” it stated, adding that Somalia will forge mutually beneficial partnerships to promote sustainable development, human rights and environmental protection.

Somalia will accelerate the implementation of the new foreign policy to achieve its vision for national, regional and international progress.

Likewise, the horn of African state will endeavour to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with its new foreign policy.

“Somalia’s foreign policy is clear in its neutrality and its commitment to the protection of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” it said. — Xinhua.
