Community service for soldier

hammer2Court Reporter
A former soldier who stole another person’s ‘O’ Level results and birth certificate and got a job as a police officer will perform 175 hours of community service.

Mbonisi Moyo (29) was on Tuesday sentenced to 12 months in jail by magistrate Ms Nomsa Sabarauta. Seven months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining five months were set aside on condition that he performs 175 hours of community service. In passing sentence Ms Sabarauta said during Moyo’s execution of duty as a police officer, he upheld the authority of the force as there is no mention of abuse of duty and corruption.

“This is an indication that he had the interest of the force at heart and wanted to safeguard his job.

“The court has also considered that he is no longer employable for national duty.”
