angered that his sibling had told him that his newly-born son had facial features that resembled those of another man from the same neighbourhood.
Stewart Nyika (22) of Murove Village in Madyangove Communal Lands allegedly attacked his brother Owen (25) with a machete after he had first tried to commit suicide in protest over his elder brother’s remarks over his newly-born son’s facial features.
Owen then disappeared after striking his brother who is reportedly battling for his life at Masvingo General Hospital after he sustained a deep cut on the neck.
Masvingo police spokesman Inspector Tineyi Matake yesterdasy said they had since launched a manhunt for Stewart who he said will be charged with attempted murder.
‘‘We have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who we want to charge with attempted murder after he struck his elder brother with a machete on the neck.
“The suspect was angry that his elder brother had told him that his newly-born son had facial features similar to another man from the same village,” said Inspector Matake.
It is alleged that on the fateful day, Stewart together with his elder brother were warming themselves around a fire in a kitchen hut at their homestead talking about the newborn son.
During the conversation, Owen is alleged to have intimated that Stewart’s son had facial features similar to those of another man – who he identified by name – from the same village.
This allegedly did not go down well with Stewart who went into his bedroom hut and locked the door from inside after chucking out his stunned wife.
When Owen knocked on the bedroom door to investigate, Stewart, who was brandishing a machete, struck Owen once on the neck inflicting a deep cut.
Owen collapsed to the ground.
Fearing that he had killed his brother Stewart vanished into the dark night while his brother was rushed to Masvingo General Hospital where his condition was said to be serious.
