CASTLE Tankard winner Comanche Brave was on song again as he captured the Republic Cup at Borrowdale on Saturday.

The grade three $40 000 Republic Cup race saw 13 runners lining up and it was four-year-old gelding by Kahal Comanche Brave, who emerged victorious.

The four-year-old Comanche Brave won the $50 000 Castle Tankard in May, and came good again in the 1 900m event at Borrowdale Park on Saturday.

With Randall Simons on the irons, the minor places went to Ashton Park, Life is Good and Roman Descent.

Bred by Summerhill Stud, Comanche Brave won by 0,25 lens ahead of Ashton Park who had Ryan Munger on the irons.

The duo walked home $2 400 richer as Ashton Park and partner pocketed $8 00 for their runners-up place.

Ashton Park of Penny Fisher yard had his second start in Zimbabwe and was beaten again by Comanche Brave in the Castle Tankard.

Life is Good, with Jarred Penny from Amy Bronkhorst came third with 1,50lens behind.

The three-year-old gelding, by Var (USA) out of Gracie Jones (USA), moved to Borrowdale Park in May, having won two races in South Africa over 1 200m and 1 400m.

The runner won his first start at Borrowdale over 1 600m and followed it up with a second place to Solinski in the Zimbabwe Derby, but finished third this time.

Bridget Stidolph Yard’s Roman Discent, with Calvin Habib as the pilot, saw the four year-old Dynasty gelding, who had four wins up to 2 400m to his credit, secure the last slot.

His three starts at Borrowdale Park include the Castle Tankard and OK Grand Challenge — where he did not shape — but showed signs of a return to form in the 1 700m MR 84 Handicap won by Barbarian at the last race meeting.
