Government is set to establish technical teacher training and polytechnic colleges in Mashonaland West and Matabeleland North provinces, the only provinces without the institutions in the country.

Higher Education, Science and Technology Development deputy minister Dr Godfrey Gandawa recently confirmed the development saying the process of identifying centres for the colleges was almost complete.

“This is a matter we are seized with as we acknowledge that there are no such institutions in Mashonalanad West province and Matabeleland North unlike other provinces in the country,” he said.

Dr Gandawa said the college in Mashonaland West will be temporarily located from any of three centres identified so far in Kadoma, Trelawney and Mhondoro while an arrangement is in the pipeline for Hwange Colliery in Matabeleland North.

The technical teacher training and polytechnic colleges will run simultaneously.

Mashonaland West had a technical teacher training college which was turned into Chinhoyi University of Technology.

The two institutions are expected to start operating at temporary locations by next year.
