CAPS United coaches Lloyd Chitembwe, assistant gaffer Mark Mathe and juniors’ coach Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi have gone back to school. They are leading the pack at the CAF B Licence coaching course that began at the ZIFA Village yesterday. The high-profile coaching course, which is expected to run for two weeks, has attracted 30 participants from the Premiership and the Division One as well as others from outside the country with five coaches coming from Botswana.

Yesterday, 24 coaches were already in attendance and they included newly-promoted Premiership side Ngezi Platinum’s coach, Clifton Kadurira. Former CAPS United striker Alois Bunjira, who is also the club’s board member in charge of marketing, is also attending the course.

WhaWha assistant coach Luke Petros is also expected to join the group. A CAF and FIFA instructor from Uganda is expected to arrive this week and will take the coaches through a rigorous programme. ZIFA coaches and grassroots development officer Michael Ngore said some of the topics being covered include tactical play.

“Some of the topics would be periodisation, tactical play, the coaches will be taught how to identify and recruit players. “They will also do energy pathways, which have got to do with conditioning of a player, as well as planning in general, from a long-term plan of maybe two years, or a short-term plan,” said Ngore.

Ngore added that ZIFA, in conjunction with Footballers Union of Zimbabwe, will also be conducting a Level One coaching course from Monday.
