LONDON. — The England women’s soccer team manager Mark Sampson has been accused of making a racist Ebola remark to former player Eni Aluko. Sampson is alleged to have made the comment ahead of an England international against Germany in 2014, which Aluko’s Nigerian relatives were travelling over for. “On the wall, there was a list of the family and friends who were coming to watch us and I just happened to be next to Mark,” Aluko told the Guardian.

“He asked me if I had anyone who would be there and I said I had family coming over from Nigeria. ‘Oh,’ he said. ‘Nigeria? Make sure they don’t bring Ebola with them.’

“I remember laughing but in a very nervous way. I went back to my room and I was really upset. It might have been easier to take if it was about me alone. ”

Aluko says that she called her mother following the incident and she was “disgusted” by the comment.

It is alleged that Sampson denies making the comment but will not be making a statement of his own at this time.

The English Football Association are believed to have known about the comment since November 2016, but chose not to act despite a previous misconduct allegation.

Sampson has allegedly previously asked a mixed-raced member of the England team how many times she had been arrested, but he was cleared of wrongdoing following an investigation.

The independent inquiry, commissioned by the FA, reached the same conclusion, despite the player not being interviewed for either investigation.

Allegations made by Aluko were also dismissed by the barrister.

The FA paid Chelsea striker Aluko £80 000 to sign a confidentiality agreement, but she has since gained consent to tell her side of the story.

Sampson is alleged to have made the controversial remark in the team hotel ahead of the England vs Germany fixture at Wembley. — The Mirror.
