City joints jostle for supremacy at beer fest

They might be scattered throughout the city and provide different entertainment menus every week, but Harare’s entertainment joints will bring their various colours to one venue when they converge at the Sunset October Beer Festival this weekend. Most of Harare’s popular venues will set up stages and bars at Sunset Arena during the festival that takes place on Friday and Saturday.

They will concurrently present their entertainment activities and exhibitions to market their places and show festival-goers what they offer at their respective joints.
Among popular venues that are expected to exhibit their products are Book Café, Dandaro Inn, New Life Night Club, Plaza de Castilla, City Sports Bar, Airport Lounge, Private Lounge, Holly’s Hotel, Richwood Sports Club, Super Label and Achies Nightclub.

Organisers of the beer festival said about 15 joints had confirmed their participation at the fete and more are expected to join the race this week.
They said the joints would provide services to their usual patrons that would attend the festival as well as market their products to potential clients.
Some of the joints have promised to provide big acts at their stands and stages and these would be given turns to light up the festival.

“Some of the joints have big entertainment activities at their stands and we will have a special programme to avoid confusion. The joints that want to stage big shows at their stages would be given different slots so that their programmes do not clash,” said the organisers.

“Most of the joints will have exhibitions, minor stage activities and competitions and these will take place throughout the festival because they do not interfere with main stage events. Each joint will present a programme of choice.

“We are not prescribing any plans for them. We will just monitor the big events,” the organisers said. The festival will present a galore of promotions to enhance fun among imbibers.
The promotions will mainly be hinged on beer prices that are set to be slashed at the festival with drinkers getting their favourite brands for as little as 20 cents per unit or 50 cents per unit.

The organisers said they would also unveil tickets for unlimited beer supply for $5 per head throughout the two-day festival.
Many artists are expected to provide entertainment during the festival.
