Thousands of Methodist Church in Zimbabwe members will today converge at the Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton for a traditional dinner dance aimed at raising funds to build their church.

Legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi who is also a member of the MCZ, Africa Revenge, Tariro Negitare, Diana Samkange, Munya Mataruse and the Dombo raMwari MCZ choir are expected to treat the guest to a memorable night of entertainment to mark the church’s transition from grass to grace.

The dinner dance will start at around 1800 hours and end the following morning, is running under the theme “Africa perspective”.

“We have set today as the day where we are going to raise the funds for our church building with the help of Dr Mtukudzi and his friends.

“We think we are going to pull this through. We got the stand in 2011 and only built a small temporary shade that we are using so far,” said Farai Nhakwi one of the organising committee members.

Nhakwi said the dinner dance will be an all African themed night.

“It has been a myth to some who attend dinner dances before, people often get puzzled on what to wear to dinner dances but to ours we have suggested to make it an African attire affair. We have also planned an African treat three-course meal that we think our guests will love,” he said.

He said the MCZ is a conscious congregation that will always be part of the society.

“The Knowe MCZ Society has always been part of the town and through this dinner dance we are seeking to strengthen our relations with people from Nortona and also appealing to them to join us in worship as a family at our church in Knowe,” he said.

The society has been involved in number of projects like annually identifying the less privileged and sending them to school, the church also donates food items at funerals to any family regardless of their church denomination.
